Denver, Rocky Mountain’s entrance gate

Denver is an established city and county located in the South Platte River Valley in High Plains just east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains. The city and County of Denver, with its desert climate, is the capital and largest city in the U.S. State of Colorado.

Denver is nicknamed the Mile-High City due to its official altitude of exactly one mile (1609 m) above sea level. The 105th meridian west of Greenwich passes through the Union Station and is the temporal reference for the Mountain Time Zone.

Denver City was founded in November 1858 as a mining town during the Pikes Peak Gold Rush in western Kansas territory. A big part of its “Wild West” history survives in the architecture and museums, which vividly depict many of the stories of businessmen, heroes and heroines of the past. When gold was found, Denver became a prosperous city full of fortune hunters, railways and cowboys.

Denver boasts a city center perfect for walking around on foot. We will walk along 16th Street Mall in Downtown. In this one-mile pedestrian street you’ll find outdoor cafés, shops and bookshops such as the famous Tattered Cover. We will visit the Cherry Creek neighborhood with hundreds of boutiques, galleries, shops and restaurants. We will experience a night of good live music in the magnificent LoDo neighborhood in the southern part of the city. There, we will taste craft beers made in some of the local breweries or allowing ourselves to be delighted by the cuisine of renowned chefs.

Visit some of the most prestigious museums in the country. The new wing of the Denver Art Museum was designed by the world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind and is ranked the second largest performing arts center in the nation, after the famous Lincoln Center in New York City.

Denver is home to one of the most beautiful natural reserves in the country: the Rocky Mountains National Reserve. This paradise for nature lovers is full of lakes, waterfalls and wildflower meadows scattered under snow covered peaks.
