San Diego, sunshine capital

San Diego is the largest city in California and is located along the southwest coast. The city has a borderline with the so called Baja California, Mexico and Tijuana.

San Diego is known for its mild year-round Mediterranean climate and for its spectacular and numerous beaches – especially those of the Coronado Peninsula. A perfect destination to practice recreational activities, such as swimming, sailing, fishing, etc. A visit to Hotel del Coronado is not to be missed. Opened in 1888, it was the largest hotel in the world and the first with electric lighting. The hotel hosted important personalities such as presidents, royalty and celebrities and it has also appeared in numerous movies and books.

San Diego hosts the largest naval fleet in the world and one of the two Marine Corps recruit centers. The city has an historic bond with US marines, proof of that is that some ships have been named USS San Diego to honor the city.

A mild climate, the beaches and countless attractions make San Diego a very attractive tourist destination. Since 1970, the city also hosts the International Comic-Convention, one of the most important events of the country.

Traveling to San Diego means enjoying beaches, visiting its countless museums in Balboa Park and being amazed by the worldwide famous zoo which hosts more than 4000 specimens.

Walk to Downtown to visit the historic neighborhood of Gaslamp Quarter. When development of the area began in the 1860s, the area was known as New Town, which was the Spanish colonial settlement of San Diego. After a period of urban decay, the neighborhood underwent several renovations in the mid 1980s and 1990s. Today, many events and festivals take place here, such as the famous Mardi Gras parade. Enjoy fine dining at its best restaurants and mingle with people in its bars and clubs.

Go to Old Town District and discover the former Spanish town where you will find Junípero Serra Museum and the reconstructed Mission of San Diego.

Lastly, go northward along the coast to visit a beautiful community called La Jolla, with high- quality shops and exclusive residences on the hills.
